This was our first attempt, so please turn the volume down. We don’t want to make you cry!
We’re much better at finding properties than singing, but we had fun giving it a go. Watch our team sing and learn a little Portuguese with us!
Why We Chose This Song
Through conversations among our team and with our clients, we’ve realised that many English speakers living in or moving to Portugal don’t know the words to the traditional Portuguese birthday song. And let’s be honest, when you’re at a Portuguese birthday party, surrounded by people singing along with big smiles, it can feel a little embarrassing when you’re the only one who doesn’t know the words!
We wanted to change that! This song is our little way of helping English speakers feel more confident, join in, and enjoy these special moments with their Portuguese friends, family and local community.
After all, living in Portugal is about more than just buying a property. It’s about embracing the culture, making connections and feeling at home. And sometimes, it starts with simply knowing the words to a birthday song! 🎂🎶
Song Lyrics
A song can teach you more than a phrasebook when you use it the right way. You hear the rhythm of the language, repeat real sentences, and start to feel how Portuguese sounds in daily life.
That is why we are starting a simple Learn Portuguese with Algarve House Hunters series. The idea is easy: listen often, read the Portuguese, understand the English meaning, then sing or speak the words until they feel natural. Over time, those sounds become phrases you can recognise at a café, in a local bar, or in everyday chat.
Keep Listening
When you play the same track again and again, your ear starts to catch patterns:
repeated sounds
common verbs
sentence rhythm
pronunciation that feels natural, not robotic
This matters because real conversation is not just vocabulary. If you want to order a drink, greet someone, or understand a small comment at your local bar, you need to hear the music of the language.
Songs help with that. They give you a phrase, a feeling, and a memory all at once.
For this lesson, do not worry about understanding every grammar rule. Start with the sound. Then connect the words to the meaning. After that, practise saying a few lines out loud.
